Police officers handle every imaginable call during their shift. No two days are alike. On Thursday, May 19, 2022, at around 1:00am officers from Atlanta P.D.’s Zone 6 responded to a report of an unresponsive person near Moreland Ave and Euclid Ave NE.

At the scene, officers found an adult male on the ground. The male patient appeared to be experiencing an overdose – he was unconscious and not breathing. Officers jumped into action immediately by performing CPR as other officers went to retrieve their NARCAN kits. As the CPR continued, a dose of NARCAN was administered and officers continued to revive the patient.

A short time later, after the second dose of NARCAN was given-these combined actions revived the patient much to everyone’s relief. Atlanta Fire Rescue and EMS took custody of the patient to render advance care. The male was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Our officer’s quick response in rendering aid and administering Narcan likely saved this man’s life. We hope that this incident will be the catalyst for change for the man. We applaud and thank the officers involved in this incident.

Their calm approach and professionalism shined a bright light on their training and compassion. We also thank AFRD and EMS for their tireless work in responding to those in need of medical care. Our partnerships make us stronger and our city safer. Job well done by all.
