Have you ever experienced spiritual exhaustion? It is much different than just feeling physically exhausted. It is a deep inward drought of living waters that seem to have drained out into the sea. I have many times experienced this spiritual exhaustion but did not realize the way things worked. What became joy became a burden. What I knew to be life in the Spirit became death in the flesh.

Many of God's people in every walk of life, man and woman, young and old, know what this spiritual exhaustion is. It is not only just for the obvious church leaders and heads of religious governments, and organizations.

It is for all of you who have been called into the family of the Household of Faith through salvation. In whatever place you were born again, you went on in it as the servants of Jesus Christ. You may have never regarded yourselves as His servants thinking it is only for the "called" and "sent."

No way, since that day you have been born again, you have been the servants of Jesus Christ. So the days are long, and the years stretch out, and there is a spiritual emptiness. You feel as though you have been drained down to the dregs. The truth is, you have been and you cannot understand why. You cannot give away what you do not have.

If you do not have a fountain of living waters opened up in you, then it is hard work. Everything spiritual seems to be dried up "like a heath in the desert." All is slave labor. It is time to return to your first love, though you may not even realize that you left Him or how, or when.

Go to Him even now, and let yourself fall down upon His feet, lean upon His breast and remain in His loving Presence until He has filled you back up again. Then go all the way with Him up the highest mountains where only He can take you far above and out of the way of this world by His Spirit. He will "give you hinds feet to get up upon thine high mountains." His mountains of spices...

"The entrancing things of a life spent partly for the things of time are just nothing beside those prepared who will go all the way with Him. But let it be all the way. Halfway following leads nowhere." ~Amy Carmichael
