SE24-02: When did Star Trek's Eugenics Wars actually take place?? (Plus: THE BIONIC WOMAN!?)

Moonjumper delves into the fictional history of the Star Trek universe and asks: When did the Eugenics Wars actually take place? The Original Series and “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” are both equally unambiguous in their clear statements that this now anachronistic, high tech, global conflict occurred between 1992 to 1996—the same year the highly advanced interstellar sleeper ship, S.S. Botany Bay, was secretly launched into space with the cryogenically suspended Khan Noonien Singh and his genetically augmented followers. That is canon, pure and simple, and not something so unnoticeable to retcon, considering that Khan is unquestionably Star Trek’s most iconic villain of all time. And yet, there are those who wish to do exactly that—to rewrite the Star Trek’s alternate history of the future to fall more in line with our own present-day reality. Current Star trek producer, Terry Matalas, is even quoted by Memory Alpha suggesting that, “Maybe Spock was wrong [about the date]?”—ignoring that Khan himself stated the same dates (not to mention that “Star Trek: Picard,” Season 2 is set in an alternate 2024, which portrays humanity as far more technologically advanced than we currently are).

This video utilizes an excerpt from Moonjumper’s recent review of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.” In discussing the history of The Eugenics Wars, Captain Pike seems to be suggesting that the conflict of supermen will now take place in the 2020s or later, contradicting previous canon—or does he? The excerpt is bookended with Moonjumper’s new and updated thoughts on the topic—including how (according to novelist, Greg Cox) the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman may have played a role in Star Trek’s most mysterious war!
