We've talked a fair bit about that bizarre creature, the New Gay Man and how he came to dominate the public perception of male homosexuality in the West. But we have never pointed to a specific even that was the incept point for that. There must have been one, because the whole Western conception of 'homosexuality' is not only bizarre but diametrically opposed to any previous understanding.

In fact, the New Gay Man represents a paradigm shift. He is unique both in history and geographically; nowhere else and at no other time did this creature exist.

He first appeared after Stonewall in 1969 and became dominant in the metropolitan USA and UK over the next twenty years. He was badly damaged by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, which killed so many, and for a time he was replaced by a new expression, the 'queers'. These were far less resolutely pseudo-masculine. It was all right to be Julian Clary or Matt Lucas or even, heaven forfend, to wear a little make-up, to 'gender-bend'.

But the New Gay Man returned in the 2000s, in a slightly modified form, but basically the same as the old 'gay' movement of the 70s: pseudo-masculine men. Their masculinity, like that of Owen Jones, might be paper-thin, but they still think it works. This return to a previous movement swept aside the 'queers'; many who had exploited their 'queerness' in entertainment and elsewhere, found their careers prematurely terminated.

The old 70s 'gay man' at least had a sense of humour and was able to laugh at himself, as The Village People showed; the New Gay Man has none whatsoever and will viciously attack and 'cancel', if he can, anyone who dares to mock him. He is, if you like, homo serious.

So where did this creature actually come from? What was the trigger that led, through the various stages, to its arrival and attempt to take over? Why do we have it now? This video explains.
