Canada: Euthanasia will allow the government 'to pay to help you kill yourself'

Cory Bernardi says Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s assisted dying laws are the slippery slope they said would never happen.
“Many states have now legislated in respect to the terminally ill, they all claim to have a range of safeguards to protect abuse,” he said.
“But what they can't legislate against is politicians themselves because they are the ones who won't be able to resist tinkering to 'improve' things.”
Mr Bernardi said this what has happened under Mr Trudeau’s leadership and the Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) program, which was originally meant solely for those with terminal illness.
Mr Bernardi said in 2023 the government has ruled those who are experiencing mental health issues can use the service – even if it was their only medical condition.
“But it gets worse than that – according to author of Losing our Dignity, Charles Camosy, the C-7 Bill or 'the euthanasia law' bill passed last year, opens up suicide to those who are so poor they 'can't live with dignity',” he said.
“That's right, Camosy says extreme poverty means the government will pay to help you kill yourself.”
“I find that just appalling, it debases humanity and is politicians saying you are too hard to help so let's all give up on you.”
