Steamboat Arabia sank in the Missouri River in 1856 with 200 tons of cargo on board. In 1985 the Hawley family who owned a heating and cooling company and several friends, one who owned a construction company and a Kansas City restaurant owner found the wreck and began excavating and preserving the cargo. Enjoy this footage of these preserved treasures featuring the everyday items used by pioneers. The state of preservation is astonishing. The beauty of these items speaks for itself. Except for a few minutes of background information just take in the beauty of these treasures set to music of the 1850s featuring the vocals of Madame Morbid herself. On all three parts! It was really fun experimenting with recording music. Also, no humans lost their lives in this wreck, though at least one carpenter lost his livelihood due to the loss of his entire tool chest. The only casualty was an unlucky mule tied up on deck.

Please visit the Steamboat Arabia Museum in Kansas City, it is well worth your time and the modest entry fee.
