Making Biochar in my back yard

This is an Unexpected Vistas tangent video.

Just for something completely different I dragged the GOPRO out with me and did a rough timelapse while I burnt off a few piles of wood, bark and leaves. I burn really hot and fast, building up the mound really quickly so all the woody stuff gets covered and forms charcoal rather than burning to ashes.
I have a test raised garden bed I set up last year with 80% charcoal and 20% soil on top, its amazing how much water is retained. I have not watered in 5 months now, it has been unusually dry this year where we are (decent rain maybe once a month) yet the soil in the raised garden bed is always moist! And the worms are going crazy.
So this is a new batch of charcoal for a second garden bed i will set up over winter, ready for spring planting :)

I am currently subclipping endless hours of urbex footage, I will do a few more short videos before I start working on a longer mini doco on the Bradmill site.
