This is part 3 on the history of the Northern State Hospital in Sedro-Wooley Washington.

Quick PSA before this episode, If you go to check this place out which I recommend because it is so interesting. Remember that many of the old buildings that were the wards and offices are currently in use by the Port of Skagit and the security will chase you off like they did me. With that, enjoy part 3.

There were 33 wards that housed the patients of this hospital and 13 other buildings such as a medical center and offices in addition to adults committed here, some children were patients as well. Often for learning disabilities like dyslexia and A.D.D Often the patients were sterilized as was common in all mental hospitals at the time. The hospital closed in 1973. Some patients were transferred to the asylum in Steilacoom by Tacoma many were literally bussed to the streets of downtown Seattle.
