Welcome to Ricky's Historical Tidbits, this is a brief history of the Deception Pass Bridge on Whidbey Island.

A New England sea captain George Morse was sailing through a narrow waterway known for its rough waters called deception pass he pointed up to Fidalgo and Whidbey island and told his children who are with him "one day we will have a bridge across this path with pass island as its center support" That was in the 1880s. Deception Pass Bridge was dedicated in 1935. Before the bridge, Fidalgo Island for about four years was a prison rock quarry that sent rock over to the Seattle waterfront which was being developed at the time. Captain George Morse became the Oak Harbor representative and introduced the bridge to Washington State congress in 1907 but it took a very long time to gain any traction. Finally in 1934, construction began and it was finished in less than a year.
