Veteran NFL players after the 2021 draft wave

With Richard Sherman still unsigned this late into free agency, it opens up the possibility he could reunite with his former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn on the Dallas Cowboys.

The longer San Francisco 49ers defensive back Richard Sherman stays on the open market, the more likely he is going to play in a defense he is readily familiar with.

Sherman may totally expect that he will have to wait until after the 2021 NFL Draft to find his new team, but there are a few intriguing potential landing spots for him. One of those spots would be with his former Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn on the Dallas Cowboys. Though the Las Vegas Raiders are in the mix as well, here is why it could be Dallas for Sherman.

While the Raiders employ another one of his former Seattle defensive coordinators in Gus Bradley, the Silver and Black bringing back safety Karl Joseph after a year with the Cleveland Browns may make things harder to get Sherman to Sin City. Though he could conceivably return to Seattle to play for Pete Carroll again in Ken Norton Jr.’s defense, Dallas could use his championship pedigree.

Dallas Cowboys: Richard Sherman can thrive in Dan Quinn’s Cover 3 base
There are a lot of reasons a place like Dallas could be appealing for an aging star like Sherman. One, every player wants to play for the Cowboys at some point, right? They are “America’s Team” after all. Two, there is no state income tax in Dallas, which could go a long way towards a player who gets taxed out the wazoo playing in his native California. And three, the team needs him.
