Naturally Lower Your Blood Sugar Level With This Easy Steps
When there is too much sugar in the blood, it is called hyperglycemia. It occurs when your body produces insufficient insulin, a hormone that transfers glucose into the bloodstream. It can also occur if your body is unable to adequately utilize insulin. These problems are frequently associated to diabetes.
Fasting blood glucose levels of more than 125 mg/dL are considered hyperglycemia. Diabetes is defined as a fasting blood glucose level of more than 125 mg/dL.
With a fasting blood glucose of 100 mg/dL to 125 mg/dL, you have impaired glucose tolerance, or pre-diabetes.
If a person's blood glucose level is more than 180 mg/dL one to two hours after eating, they have hyperglycemia.
If you don't address hyperglycemia for a long time, it can harm your nerves, blood vessels, tissues, and organs. Blood vessel damage can raise your risk of heart attack and stroke. Eye damage, kidney damage, and non-healing wounds can all be caused by nerve injury.
Glycemic index :
A glycemic index is a useful tool for tracking and controlling blood sugar levels.
Any food item's GI runs from 0 to 100, with 0 reflecting no sugar spike and 100 representing a sugar surge caused by pure glucose.
There are three types of food groupings based on these numbers:
Foods with a glycaemic index of 55 or less are considered low GI.
The glycaemic index of foods with a medium GI ranges from 56 to 69.
Finally, foods with a glycaemic index of more than 70 are considered high GI.
Several factors can alter a food's glycemic index, including the following:
Grains that have been milled and refined (removing the bran and germ) have a higher glycemic index than whole grains that have been minimally treated.
Grain that is finely ground digests faster than grain that is coarsely ground. It is preferable to consume whole grains in their "whole form," such as brown rice or oats, rather than highly processed whole grain bread.
High-fibre foods take longer to digest since they contain less digestible carbs. It causes a slower and more gradual rise in blood sugar.
The glycemic index of overripe fruits and vegetables is higher than that of ripe fruits and vegetables.
Foods that are heavy in fat or acid take longer to convert to sugar.
So, if you want to keep your blood sugar under control, eat more low and medium GI foods. It does not, however, make high-GI meals harmful or unnutritious. They're fine to have on occasion and in moderation.
