This week on 51/49, James discusses AOC, FDR, and change.

In 2018 Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez came into Congress as an insurgent political outsider with some pretty bold ideas and promises for transforming America. Now that she’s in her second term, we’re seeing a shift from her being this firebrand who led a sit-in at Nancy Pelosi’s office on her first day in Congress, to someone who’s more tempered and open to working within the system.

This shift has prompted many, like prominent YouTube political commentator Jimmy Dore, and many others, to call her a fraud and a sell out.

So to explore this topic more, James dives into the past to revisit the story of how Franklin Delano Roosevelt—known today for his many pro-worker New Deal and massive infrastructure programs, actually worked behind the scenes to co-opt insurgent 3rd party movements to preserve capitalism in America.
