The internet is swayed by the news of Andy Chaves, who is a band member of the popular band Katastro, death in an accident. Fans cannot still comprehend the fact that a star and exuberant singer are not more.

I am so devastated, Katastro meant so much to me. I was just listening to my Sucker Vinyl. I bought my tickets for the show the day they dropped and was looking forward to it, last time I saw them in Arizona I was front row and that was the best concert I’ve ever been to. Over the years since I first saw Katastro go on tour almost ten years ago with Pacific Dub I got to know Andy Chaves a bit and I’d always call him Andres and he said his grandma calls him that and I told him that I would keep calling him that every time so he’d remember me. Andy Chaves was the lead singer of my one of my favorite bands, Katastro. I was fortunate to see him late 2019, but they haven’t been around Cle since the pandemic. These guys were going places, just last week they played Red Rocks with Sublime. But there is no replacing Andy in Katastro. This one hurts.

Katastro was formed in 2007 when high school friends Andrew Stravers, Tanner Riccio, Ryan Krebs and Kenny teamed up with rapper Andy Chaves (known as Andy J). The five released their debut EP A Wonderful Daze (2007). After the release, Guitarist (Ryan Krebs) and Bassist (Kenny) left the band and were replaced by Ryan Weddle (bass). The new foursome released a four song EP The Facts in 2008.[2] The next year they released another EP Poking Holes in a Pattern (2009). Katastro released their first full length album Gentle Predator in 2011.[3] I

n 2014 they released No Mud No Lotus.[4] In 2016 Katastro signed with LAW RECORDS (Pepper) and released Strange Nights (2016). Strange Nights was produced in part by Kaleo Wassman of Pepper and the song "Waste the Night" features Jared Watson from The Dirty Heads.[1] Katastro released their first acoustic album Bones in 2017 featuring a collection of fan favorites.[5] Katastros latest album "Washed" was self released in August of 2018.
