Despite their name, sugar gliders eat insects as well as nectar and flowers. The scientific name of this species is Petaurus breviceps, which means short-headed rope dancer. Sugar gliders were first introduced to Tasmania in 1835, and they remain the state's only glider species. In the United States of America, sugar gliders are popular pets.
