In this trout fishing video we went Brook trout fishing small streams in northern Michigan. Michigan Brook Trout Fishing was a mystery to both of us so we embarked on a mission to catch our first brook trout! Both of us believe we may have caught a Brook Trout years ago as kids but neither of us remembers for sure or have any sort of picture evidence or anything so we decided to head to northern Michigan and chase some Brook trout. Some people prefer to use flies but we decided to go brook trout fishing with Lures. Because of the size of the water we decided panther martin‘s were going to be the best bet and neither of us used anything else for the entire seven hour Brooke trout fishing escapade. When creek fishing for Brook Trout snags are a major issue and both of us spent lots of time un snagging Lures and tossing spinners in trees. However neither of us lost a single lure the whole time. We both started with a gold blade black and yellow body size 6 panther martin. Jason never changed the whole time I switch to white and silver halfway through the trip same size though. Aside from snags trout fishing small streams is a lot of fun and it was a beautiful adventure through some wild parts of Northern Michigan! This was a new river for both of us so we didn’t know what to expect other than that the main fish population was brook trout. We were surprised when we spent seven hours and never hooked anything other than a Brook Trout. My past trout fishing experience is that you could catch a rainbow or a brown or if you’re lucky a Brook trout so it was interesting to find nothing but Brook trout in these Northern Michigan creeks. This video kind of made it look easy but we tracked through a lot of treacherous grounds, thick forest vegetation and miles of walking in the current. Personally I got way more bites than I did solid hook ups and I would say that the brook trout although aggressive are finicky nippers and not the easiest Fish to catch. When it comes to looks Brook trout have it going on. The colors are much like pastel paintings and the patterns on their back are very interesting. Brook trout are aggressive little fish that put up a pretty good battle on the ultralight rod. I have always heard that spring is the best time to target brook trout so we went a week after trout season opened. I think we will probably target in Brook Trout again in the fall so that we can catch them when they have their fall breeding colors. I began trout fishing Michigan rivers about five years ago and in five years of targeting rainbow trout brown trout and steelhead I had never come across a Brook Trout even when fishing waters that supposedly have them. When it comes to targeting brown trout in Michigan I highly recommend driving north at least to Grayling if not further north towards Mackinac bridge. However I have heard that Brooke trout fishing Michigan’s upper peninsula is where it’s really at. Regardless of where you go Michigan trout fishing will reward you with beautiful fish that fight well, taste great and are a treat to see in person.
