On Wednesday, May 4, Karima Delli, Chairwoman of the European Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism spoke on the impacts of the war in Ukraine on these sectors.
Her speech ⬇️
"The aggression of Ukraine by Russia since the end of February has brought transport to the forefront of the news. Whether it is about the delivery of humanitarian supplies, basic foodstuffs, especially through seaports, about the transport and evacuation of refugee people, freight and passenger transport are at the heart of the resistance of Ukrainians to the Russian invader.
The transport workers have been doing heroic work on the ground for more than two and a half months. They are showing unfailing courage to allow those still in Ukraine to live and to allow those who wish to flee to be safe. I would therefore like to express my sincere thanks to all these people as Chair of the Committee on Transport and Tourism.
On the other hand, where Ukraine is suffering and can no longer ensure the organization of the logistics chain or the transport of refugees on its own, the European Union must be up to the task, must fully assume its role and uphold the values of solidarity and fraternity that we hold dear. I therefore call on the authorities of the European Union, of our Member States, of our regions to do everything possible at the European level so that yes, between the European Union and Ukraine, we can welcome with dignity those in need and transport the necessary supplies.
I thank you."
