“Viper” was the slang name given, especially among jazz musicians during the 20s/30s, to cannabis smokers in the US. It referred to the hissing sound produced while “taking a swift, sly suck on a skinny little joint” (says Wikipedia).

Recorded as a trio in one take in a French studio in 2004, without any previous rehearsal or any further editing, it features such unusual ethnic instrument as the Moroccan (Gnawa) bass Hajouj, the Turkish clarinet, a chromatic Kalimba, Udu and other various percussion (full credit at the end of the video).
