Fish Liking Music
Do you sometimes wonder if your fish recognize the music you play in your room every night? Most people are not aware of it, but fish respond to sound, and several studies show that they can even recognize different genres of music. Interesting, isn’t it?

Do fish likes music? Fish appreciates music, and it affects them in several ways. Fish are attracted to particular vibrations, sounds, and behavior or respond to music or sonar in many ways.

In this article, you will learn the science behind music and vibrations to fish and how they could respond and hear the music itself.

Besides that, you may also discover that while some sounds may enhance their mood, too many loud vibrations and other sounds can scare them away.

How Fish Hear
You might not know it, but most people think fish can’t hear because they don’t have ears. That’s not true. Fish have different sound organs in their body. Different species can listen to using cilia, which is fine nerve hair.

They can also hear from their bladder, otoliths, accelerometers, or a combination of those organs. The cilia are somehow the same structure that lines the cochlea in the inner part of the ear in humans or some land-dwelling vertebrates.

How Sound Travels In Water
Another misconception about why people think fish doesn’t appreciate music is that sound does not travel in water. If you’re swimming in the ocean and going in for a deep dive, you can still hear a sound even if you’re down under.

Sound waves travel in water the same way it travels through the air. The only difference why the sound underwater is a little muffled is because the water is denser than air, and the density reduces the intensity of the sound.

However, through natural selection and their adaptability, fish developed a sound perception organ specifically for underwater hearing. They don’t encounter the same issues as humans do.

Why Fish Might Respond To Music
Fish might respond to any music or sound for their survival. It is their way of being able to know what is happening in their surrounding.

Fish anatomy can only see close distances because their vision is limited due to the lack of light rays underwater.

Therefore, going in with their other senses through hearing, they will predict the movements if some predators try to eat them or swim too close.
