Horizon Chase Turbo (PC) - World Tour 100% - Part 1: California

11 years ago, I played a SNES game on this channel called Top Gear. It was a racing game that I had many fond childhood memories of, and it was through comments on my Top Gear videos that I learned of a new game that is more or less a spiritual successor to Top Gear, with the same music composer to boot! I've wanted to play it on this channel ever since I learned of it, and now it's finally time! Welcome to Aquiris's Horizon Chase Turbo!

Horizon Chase Turbo is a sequel to a mobile Android/iOS game called Horizon Chase - World Tour made for PC and 8th-generation consoles (PS4/Xbox One/Switch). This game includes 109 tracks, improved graphics, and couch co-op! The game plays very similarly to Top Gear, where you have to race around the world, with the added catch of refueling your car for longer races. Unlike Top Gear, where you have to pull into a pit stop and lose precious time and position waiting for your car to refuel, all you have to do in Horizon Chase Turbo is just run over a fuel canister to restore one bar of fuel. Just like in Top Gear, if you run out of fuel, you'll coast to a stop and then lose the race. However, you can continue racing if you coast into a fuel canister before coming to a dead stop. In fact, there is an achievement for winning a race doing that.

There is a new twist in each race in Horizon Chase Turbo, which is that each track has a set of tokens to collect, which will boost your overall score in the World Tour, unlocking new tracks and cars quicker, and you can also get a Super Trophy if you collect all of them and win the race. And yes, you'll need to do this for every race for 100% completion, which is what I'm going for in my playthrough.

Like in Top Gear 2 and Top Gear 3000, you can also upgrade your car in Horizon Chase Turbo. You do this by scoring enough points in World Tour to unlock an Upgrade Race in each region and then winning that race. After winning an Upgrade Race, you can then select one of three options to upgrade two stats for all of your cars.

Legendary Top Gear composer Barry Leitch was recruited to work on the soundtrack for Horizon Chase Turbo, and his work is still as amazing as ever. In fact, one of the songs from the soundtrack is actually a remix of the Track 1 theme from Top Gear, which is sure to get the nostalgia flowing!

There are four ways to play Horizon Chase Turbo: World Tour, Tournaments, Endurance, and biweekly Playground events. Since you have to progress in the World Tour in order to unlock the other modes, let's do World Tour first! Our first stop is my own home state of California with stops in San Francisco, Sequoia National Park, Los Angeles, and an Upgrade Race in Death Valley!
