Sam: Hey sam do you think SCOTUS even considering to touch Roe v Wade this will re-energize Democrats to get out and vote this fall? I mean it should. I mean it should. Right?
Emma: It's hard to say right now. It's really hard to say right now.
Sami I mean I'll tell you I mean if I'm running if I'm running now in a purple district or a purple state I'm I can now bring up would you vote for a ban on abortion when you get elected. Because that is the perfect wedge issue. because you know a certain percentage of their base if they're running as a republican. It could be 20, 30 could be 50. could be 60 or 70 percent of their voters don't want to hear this guy say no ban on abortion. And now it is less of a hypothetical.
Nomi: And where we are in the primary season too like they're just starting I'm curious how this is gonna affect the republican primaries. Because if you're in a purple district and the Democrat that wins progressive or centrist or wherever or incumbent is running against someone who's an extremist because of this they're more likely to have extremists winning the republican primaries which sets it up better for the Dems for us. This is the argument they always make against us now inverse it the more extremists running in these in this climate is actually going to hurt them in these purple districts.
Sam: So but how does this play in the republican primaries to the extent that you know Ohio is happening today for instance? But I mean do they're going to go harder on abortion in the primary?
Nomi: I think oh I think if you're an extremist on the right you're going to mobilize around this. and especially in these smaller districts. I mean this is to forget about the senate but focus on congress and state ledger districts. Of course. they're gonna you know the most active radical people show up in the primaries right? So I think it's going to help the far-right out. Who's already running a lot of extremists around the country. And essentially if you are in a purple district it'll affect you. The problem is when you get down to the state level you know everything's gerrymandered to death. Who knows at the end of the day how much it's going to affect right democrats.
