How much gravel do you need? grading gravel pad mini excavator

Deep in the woods in far Southern Illinois there is rumored to be a gravel miser going around and cheating some excavation 'norms' to save people cash... LOL, join me for another deep woods land management mission as we take to the woods again for some fun, fresh air and some property management with the Bobcat e42 R series mini excavator. If you own property, have good year round access is a must. And this includes a decent driveway and entrance and parking area for your vehicles and trailers. This property that I have been working on lately does have a nice gravel pad at it's entrance. However, the pad has about 12 inches of gravel on it, a couple of humps and could use some more turn around room for trucks hauling trailers and such. So Curtis', who is managing this property asked me if I could make it bigger and level it out since there was a foot of gravel on it. So, I obliged the request and got to work with the mini excavator and the new angle blade. When it comes to a rough area that has already had many vehicles using it, compacting it and parking on it, that makes a suitable base to get away with using a lot less gravel than some people might think. So in this case I shaved down the 12 inches of gravel and was able to substantially make the gravel lot bigger, and still maintain a good 3 to 4 inches of gravel on most of the parking lot.
