CITRUS & FUNK! The Caldwell SAVAGES - CIGAR REVIEWS by CigarScore

Today's cigar, the Caldwell Savages Lancero, is one I've reviewed before, but that was over two years ago, and it was a different vitola (size).

Since then, I've reviewed over 300 cigars, and smoked thousands more, and my preferences and pallate have changed. And while this isn't quite a “Second Chance” Cigar Review, it is an opportunity to see how our reviews hold up over time.

The Caldwell Savages Lancero is a fairly long cigar with a pigtail end. When I took a closer look at the wrapper leaf, I noticed some green splotches that I've seen on other cigars.

After cutting through the cap and removing the pigtail with my guillotine, the draw was fantastic and had the perfect amount of resistance. Lighting the Savages Lancero, the flavors were those typical to Caldwell Cigars, and were of citrus, hops, and slight funkiness.

Through the middle of the cigar, the flavors were good, the draw was good, and the burn was perfectly even.

Final Thoughts

After smoking the Caldwell Savages Lancero for about 77 minutes, I must admit that I (personally) don't love Caldwell cigars. Their “signature sauce” as I often call it, is a little sour, a little danky and funky, and isn't something I really enjoy.

However, if you're a fan of that tangy funk typical of other Caldwells, you're going to want to try this lancero. For my review cigar, I had a great draw, a razor-sharp burn, and the labels came off with ease.

Overall, this cigar hits all the right points and does so quite well. Even though the flavors weren't for me, the Caldwell Savages Lancero earns a CigarScore 5.
