Stardust

Who's got two minutes and forty-four seconds to spare? Go!

This song was written in 1927. It was the theme for our AM radio station's (Westerly, RI) nostalgic music format, many years-ago. Stardust was on my license plate. After all the years, I conceded the MANY varieties of notations of this song weren't working for me on guitar, so I arranged it myself. I wrote all the chords you see me playing, and when I was done, I remember thinking it was kind of amazing that I didn't listen to the song once, and I don't think I've heard it in years. It's just in there, in my brain. It's a pretty good arrangement! What do you think?

LYRICS

And now the purple dusk of twilight time
Steals across the meadows of my heart
High up in the sky the little stars climb
Always reminding me that we're apart

You wander down the lane and far away]
Leaving me a song that will not die
Love is now the stardust of yesterday
The music of the years gone by

Sometimes I wonder why I spend
The lonely night dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you

When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
But, but that was long ago, and now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song

Beside the garden wall when stars are bright!
You are in my arms The nightingale tells his fairytale
Of paradise, where roses bloom

Though I dream in vain
In my heart it will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain

And though I dream in vain, in my heart there always will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain
