Considering Hip Surgery for Older Runners?

- For you older people considering hip surgery, I received two opinions from my customers today while selling shoes.

1. Man, 50s, ran over 300 marathons, recommended it but advised to go anterior in the front so it’s less painful. Posterior hip surgery requires cutting into the muscle, which is much more painful. He said the surgery felt great, though admittedly he isn’t as fast as he used to be.

2. Woman, 50s, did not want the surgery and purchased Superfeet orthotics to minimize pain. Pain level considerably better and tolerable.

Both can be good options. If it’s me, I say don’t do it but I’m extremely stubborn and have a high pain threshold. I’m also considering picking up Muai Tai or MMA, which is Brazilian Jujitzu
