Tips and Tricks for Double Sliding Barn Doors:
• If you are purchasing the barn door w/o the hardware make sure the hardware you purchase is sufficient for the weight of the doors you buy
• Our doors are heavy and a header board behind the railing is always needed for the extra support because the barn doors were an after thought and the door framing isn’t sufficient for hanging barn doors so pre plan or plan to add a header board
• Floor guides are a must to avoid some “cons” of barn sliders
• Know the actual framed in door opening or specify the measurements are rough opening and not framed before ordering the size door you want because it has to be larger than the opening
• Make sure your railing/floor guide has a stopper
• Installing properly is a necessity for frustration free door operation (following the instructions for railing installation is imperative for balance and angle for smooth action slow close/opening to avoid it slamming open because it has now way of slowing down. Think of it like the addition of slow close cabinet doors
• Know you are going to have a floor guide and make sure your builder knows because depending on what type of floor you will have to install the floor guide before or as part of installing the floor. Carpet is a big issue if not planned in advance. The floor guide should be installed first. Tile adds height to the floor and the doors need to be high enough above the floor to clear the guide.
• Take hardware size and clearance into consideration for wall clearance when opened or for by-pass doors
