Britain is planning to send tanks to Poland in a significant escalation of its military support so that Ukraine can then be supplied by the Polish government with Soviet-era T-72 tanks. Britain has offered to send tanks to Poland to enable the country to give away its own weaponry to Ukraine, Boris Johnson has revealed.

The Prime Minister announced that the UK will shortly reopen its embassy in Kyiv two months after it closed – and said that Western allies were preparing to guarantee Ukraine’s security in the long term to keep it safe from Russian aggression.

Speaking in New Delhi, Mr Johnson admitted he had not pressed his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to abandon his neutral stance on the conflict. He said the war could last until the end of next year and warned Vladimir Putin could yet fulfil some of his war aims and news.
