2

Irina was born in Belarus but grew up in Soviet Russia. She describes life behind the Iron Curtain as "no happiness, only brainwashing". Everybody was the same, everybody was equal -- equally poor -- except those belonging to the ruling party. She came to America when she was 26 years old and found life here completely different from what the Soviet propaganda had led the people there to believe. However, in today's America she sees many parallels to what she had experienced in the Soviet Union. She shares with us her memories from her life in the USSR and her concerns for America's future. #Immigrantstory #socialism #communism
