Senator Cruz Presses Transportation Secretary Buttigieg on Mask Mandate
During a the president's transportation budget request, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) presses Secretary Pete Buttigieg on the federal mask mandate, the secretary's decision to not wear a mask at this year's White House Correspondent's Dinner in Washington, and the administration's decision to appeal a court ruling striking down the mandate. Secretary Buttigieg says he made a personal risk assessment in choosing not to wear a mask at the annual dinner. He also says the administration's decision to appeal the federal court's ruling is distinct from the daily implementation of the mask mandate and concerns the CDC's authority in this pandemic and future pandemics.
