Aug 20, 2021 Join us on our Southern Illinois farm for a multi faceted land management and food plot update. In today's episode I'll be using my Bobcat T650 CTL skid steer with my Blue Diamond Severe Duty cutter to do the first step for my fall food plots with the mowing. I did spray several of these plots a few weeks ago with herbicide to reduce the substantial weed competition. So, we'll start with the Bobcat T650 CTL and brush cutter, then we'll take some look backs from last deer season as this particular food plot is a brand new plot, that used to be thick woods and brush. We'll look at how successful it was last year with some beautiful big buck footage, and see how the brand new food plot worked. Then we'll transition to the Kioti RX7320 and home made chisel disc harrow and work up the ground in this new food plot since there are a couple remaining stumps and roots from the trees that used to be in this space. Then we will increase the size of this new fall food plot this year since it was so successful, bigger is definitely better! Also during the farm vlog and land management update my 'land manager' (aka the 'other' me:) will be getting my new/used Polaris Sportsman 850 ATV ready for some work! I'll be adding an ATV sprayer on the rear and an ATV seed spreader on the front to get ready to tackle all of my fall food plots very soon. And since my timing was off, I will now be watching the weather for the next chances of rain before I start planting the fall food plots. I have learned many times that if you plant early, get rain, and then a long, hot, dry spell that it can doom your brand new plots! I missed the rain we got 2 days ago, so now I'll have to be patient and wait for the next 'good' chances of rain and then break tail on getting a bunch of plots planted!
