A History of Ukraine: The Gates of Europe(an War) - part 21

Something of a Ukrainian history lesson, using Serhii Plokhy's 2015 book The Gates of Europe, and focused on matters relative to today's war, including Ukrainian cultural development and nationalism, Russian influence, the role of Jews in this history, and even the Ukrainian Greek Catholic or Uniate Church. Oh, and Austrian Galicia too.

Parts 20 thru 22 cover the period from post-WWII to the end of the USSR in 1991, starting with the expanded western border of Ukraine/USSR, ethnic cleansing, and the war on nationalism, the Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Jews. But through all of this I underline the apparent critical importance of the newly-absorbed Galician west and its anti-Soviet/Russian activist elements - the Greek Catholics, the Banderian ultra-nationalists, and of course the Jews.

The last two chapters of the book cover the post-independence period up thru EuroMaidan in 2014-15, and then the author's conclusions, and I hope to work through that in the next couple days before getting into my conclusions on this book and other related material.
