What’s up everyone, it’s Andy, and today I’m here reviewing Bluehost, which is one of the most popular web hosting platforms around. Basically, if you’ve ever scrolled through holiday cookie recipes or travel blogs, there’s a good chance you’ve been on a Bluehost site.
But what is web hosting, exactly, and what do I think of Bluehost as a platform? Let’s get into it.
First, let’s talk about web hosting. Now, whenever you build a website, it has to live somewhere. I know the internet can sometimes seem like a floating cloud of antimatter, but in reality, everything has to exist and live somewhere. So all websites are built on a hosting platform. These platforms provide the infrastructure for the website to live, like the physical servers that maintain and store all of the information and structure of your website.
And a good web hosting service will help your site run well, which will in turn improve a site’s performance and SEO. Now, Bluehost specifically is one of the oldest web hosting platforms out there. It started back in 1996, and it’s still one of the top brands. I mean, it’s one of the web hosting sites recommended by WordPress, which is the most popular website builder in the industry. So, that begs the question, why does WordPress like Bluehost so much?
Well, overall, Bluehost offers a ton of tools and resources to its customers, and it continues to focus on an easy-to-use interface. For example, most plans include unlimited disk storage, domain hosting, email addresses, and bandwidth. Plus, you get a free domain name for a year included when you use the platform, which I love. So basically, you can set up your website and not have to worry about a thing.
Now, I mentioned servers earlier. And, depending on your website’s purpose, Bluehost also offers five different server options catered to different site needs. So, let’s quickly go through them. Bluehost offers shared, VPS, dedicated, and WordPress hosting, along with cloud sites.
Now, as your site traffic grows, if it gets large enough then you may notice a difference in the speed of your site, because you’re sharing a server with other sites. In that case, you can switch to VPS hosting, which provides you with additional resources, or dedicated hosting, which gives you your own server. And you know, dedicated hosting is definitely catered towards larger businesses with really high volume traffic.
It hosts your site across several virtual servers, which allows it to scale better and adjust to surges in volume, like for Black Friday shopping, and it has a great back up plan. But like I said, it is expensive, so it’s best for larger businesses who can accommodate the cost.
Now, WordPress hosting is a pretty cool feature with Bluehost. So, like I mentioned before, Bluehost is one of WordPress’s recommended platforms, and something like 30% of websites are built on WordPress. So, Bluehost created a dedicated program for those sites. And one thing I really like about this feature is that Bluehost can really help troubleshoot any issues specific to WordPress, because they’re so familiar with the product.
Now, I will say that their basic plan under WordPress hosting is pretty much the same as their shared hosting plan, but that said, the premium plan under their WordPress hosting has a lot of great features. For example, they offer site analytics, free themes for your site, daily backups, and malware detection. And the daily backups and malware detection are huge for me, because they make sure that one, if something ever happens to your site, your content is safe, and two, that you’re protecting both yourself and your site visitors from malware.

Thank you very much for watching, and I’ll see you in the next one.
