The REAL Rudy: Ill-Equipped Emergency Tactical Radios

Mayor Rudy Giuliani ran for presidential office on how he handled the attacks on 9/11. There is absolute positive proof that firemen were killed because his administration did not fix the long-standing [since 1993] problems with emergency tactical radio equipment for the FDNY.

This Brave New Films investigative report calls attention to four key questions about Giuliani's handling of the inoperable radios from the FDNY's families and experts:

• Why was nothing done to improve FDNY radio performance for seven years after a clear need was demonstrated in the 1993 World Trade Center attack?

• When new radios were finally ordered, why did the City of New York block other companies [besides Motorola] from bidding on the contract?

• Once Motorola was given the contract, why did its cost rise drastically from $1.4 million to $14 million over one weekend?

• Why were the new emergency tactical radios never field tested?

These questions should be addressed and the New York City Council must launch an investigation.
