Can We Do This Forever? Sailing FAST & Living Slow! - Spinnaker Sailing in St. John USVI [Ep. 20]

We make our final push sailing into St. Thomas US Virgin Islands during a squally night. We have some special visitors, but first, we catch up on some boat work, fixing some not so fun problems. We visit St. John USVI for some fun with friends and do some swimming and snorkeling. Two sailboats on the water make a race (we were racing at least)! We are challenged by an Outremer Catamaran! We celebrate our win in this video with some boat pizza!

In this episode, we finally make it to St. Thomas after a 700 mile offshore ocean passage from the Bahamas. We are glad to see land but after so much time in the deserted islands of the Bahamas, we are smacked in the face with the full force of big brand marketing in the USVI.

We have lots to do while we are here, especially some much-needed plumbing work. Don't ask, just watch and you will see. We also need to make some repairs after the hard sailing passage. We still make time for fun though. Kate's mom joins us for a few days, and our friends from Jamestown Boatyard in Rhode Island, Dave and Denise, make an appearance for some spirited sailing and fun in St. John.

About Us:

So who are we?

We are Kate and Curtis, a YouTube sailing couple and travel vloggers, with our sailing rescue dog Roxy, aboard SV Sweet Ruca, a J-Boats J/46 monohull.

We used to be sailboat racers on the great lakes (we still are...kind of). We bought a sailboat, re-fit it, with a goal to sail around the world, doublehanded, via the capes (Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope). Some say this is the wrong way or the hard way. To us, the challenge is part of the journey.

We will see if this will happen or not, as the "new normal" has put quite a damper on our travels. For now, we are holed up in the Windward Islands of the Caribbean making videos and scuba diving.

We are not Sailing La Vagabonde, Expedition Evans, Sailing Doodles, Sailing Uma, Project Atticus, MJ Sailing, Gone With the Wynns, or SV Delos.

We aren't Vendee Globe Race or Volvo Ocean Race sailors, although sometimes Curtis wishes he was one. We don't have a fancy catamaran, but we do have a pretty and fast monohull sailboat.

Cruising catamarans like the Fountaine Pajot's, Leopards, and Lagoons can't keep up, but we still like them and even sometimes with we had one ;-)

We hope you enjoy our videos and vlogs and join us on our journey via our YouTube Channel.

'Till Next Time :-)
