Pat Tillman: US Army's Murder Scandal

Pat Tillman was a heroic face of the so-called "War on Terror" -- an NFL star who left behind a $3.6 million contract and his new wife to fight for his country after the 9/11 attacks.

When Tillman was killed in Afghanistan on 22 April 2004, the United States Army told his family he had been killed by enemy fire after courageously charging up a mountain side to protect his fellow Army Rangers.

But as Katie Couric reported on 60 Minutes, that bogus story did not hold up. After seven falsely reported US Army CID investigations, Tillman had really been killed by fratricide; friendly fire — shot "accidentally" three times in the head at close range by his fellow soldiers. Based on the series of those three closely grouped gunshot holes in his head, within days, soldiers in his own unit knew that Tillman was killed by fellow US Army Rangers.

For the past seven years, his family, led by his mother Mary, has been searching for answers about what really happened, beginning the day she heard the news from Pat Tillman's wife, Marie.

Based on statements received from soldiers actually present at the time of Tillman's death, before being murdered, it was learned that Tillman was screaming, "Cease fire! I'm Pat Tillman! What's wrong with you?"
