Brandon Beane announced in his press conference immediately after the pick that Elam was the last player left on their board with a first-round grade. Buffalo Bills traded up to beat out any other would-be contenders for those same draft picks.

Kaiir Elam is a solid athlete that the Buffalo Bills clearly saw as “trade up worthy”. His size and strength helped him against top SEC competition. He will need to be less grabby, but there is a lot here for McDermott to work with.
