IN - BED VERMICOMPOSTING: Make castings and compost directly in your garden bed

In-bed vermicomposting (the white buckets in my beds). I've had these buckets in my beds for over a year and a half and I can't imagine gardening any other way.⁣ The worm castings they produce are garden gold and help your garden in so many ways. 

During the hot summer here in Arizona the worms burrow down to stay cool in the beds. I keep adding food scraps to my buckets over the summer and the heat breaks them down, leaving behind compost (not castings). 

Now that temperatures are cooling off the worms are ready to get back to work! It's a great time to refresh your bins (or add them to your beds).
