Winter Gardening: Dahlia tuber check, seed potatoes, and plantings for February Zone 7.

Winter gardening involves more than sitting and looking at seed catalogs. In this episode we check on the #Dahlia tubers overwinter storage, we look at three varieties of seed potatoes, and winter sow early above ground crops.

What am I sowing in February? Green peas, salad greens, petunias, and some Asian greens. Seed starting now will establish hearty seedlings for transplants into the garden after the frost free date for us in zone 7 is March 23.

Our seed potatoes are secured. We have some 30-40 pounds of seed potatoes. They include kennebec, red Pontiac, and Yukon Gold potatoes. We will start planting potatoes mid month and every couple of weeks until the potatoes run out.

This is the first year we have pulled up he dahlia tubers. I started these from seed in 2020 and two years later I am stoked to still have these beautiful flowers available for the gardens.
