Back in the late 990's Texas was a hotbed for "Shootfighting" and that was because of one man - MMA Pioneer Steve Nelson. An Oklahoma State wrestler, Nelson comes from a family of professional wrestlers and his USWF promotion operating out of Amarillo was at one point a bigger attraction than the UFC. Though he went 0-2 against the legendary Ralph Gracie, Nelson was at the forefront of the Wrestling vs BJJ rivalry and he was a pioneer of the lower weight classes back when the UFC was basically a heavyweight show. Meet Steve Nelson - a humble, lifelong martial artist who should not be forgotten.
