Leonard is the sweetest man, and is now in hospice with his family at home with terminal cancer at 96 years old. His days are numbered unfortunately but he lived a full life and server our great country.

Machinist Mate Leonard Crowl was on an LST 409. They didn’t give the ships name, as they didn’t expect them to come back so the gave them number. When they left Hawaii they picked up the first marine division and then when they got to Okinawa where they were beached, they let the marines out, and all of the marines artillery, tanks, and weapons were unloaded. Then they backed off, and they became an emergency hospital ship, and the wounded were brought out to his ship, and then they were moved to a large hospital ship. More injured came out and they were moved to Leonard's ship and where Leonard helped them. There were 21 kamikaze attacks after the war was over and everything was signed. Leonard kept the ship going after the attack. Leonard is 96 years old an an absolute living treasure of our country.
