The Modern Creation Myth

At the start of the 20th century, mathematical physics, inspired by a series of instrumental discoveries in astrophysics, attempted to formulate an answer to the question of how the universe came to be. The resulting modern creation myth, the big bang, was hailed as a triumph of reason and cosmic understanding. But was it really something new, or was it just a new version of the oldest story known to humanity?
