Pashinyan Holds Victory Rally After Winning Snap Armenian Elections

A Victory rally for Nikol Pashinyan was held yesterday in Yerevan Armenia that thousands of people showed to give their support to their Prime Minister after winning the Armenian Snap Elections Yesterday Nikol Pashinyan won 53.9% of the vote and his rival, ex-leader Robert Kocharyan, came second with 21%. Kacharyan and other opposition members claimed that there was fraud in the election and that the results are "illegitimate". International observers were present at the election and said "the 20 June 2021 early parliamentary elections in the Republic of Armenia were competitive and generally well-managed within a short timeframe.” Although there was a suspect anti Pashinyan protest to take place today it did not and the rally staid peaceful.Snap Elections were held yesterday in Armenia following 7 months of unrest and a lost war with Azerbaijan. In November of last year, The Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan signed a trilateral agreement with Azerbaijan and Russia which stopped the war in the disputed area of Nagorno-Karabakh(or the Republic of Artsakh as the residents call it) but the terms made it where Armenia had to give most of the control of this region to Azerbaijan. During the turnover of this territory, Armenian's living there fled and burned most of the homes and infrastructure as they left so Azerbaijan could not use them. This deal infuriated many Armenians and a movement(Fed by the opposition) started to demand Pashinyan leave or be removed from office and jailed. As part of the negotiations, Pashinyan agreed to resign so there could be a snap election. In April He stepped down as prime minister as required by law to hold the early vote but has remained in charge as acting prime minister. Now he has won that election and is there prime minister again.
