Auckland Harbour Gondola Visitation: $4 per ride. $350M to build.

Rather than an Auckland harbour bike bridge, I propose a gondola crossing that will cary 3,500 people per hour and cost $4 per ride. It would integrate with the bus network and be cost natural to rate payers.

$400,000,000 / 4 = 100,000,000 crossings, 4 hours of peak traffic per day = 10,000 crossings. Which is 10,000 days for cost recuperation. = 30 years with peak traffic alone. The other 8-12 hours per day will bring pay back way quicker. If you account for congestion reduction time and cost savings, quicker again. If you charger $6, quicker again.

Gondolas run on electricity, that's like instantly changing 12% of cars crossing the bridge per day to electric.

A gondola would be accessible for children, the elderly and people with mobility needs. Unlike a bike and walk path, a gondola can be used by everyone, all times of the day. Bikes can be carried in large 8 - 12 seat pods.

A gondola can be used in breezy, wet and cold weather. A bridge 45m above the harbour will not be an enjoyable tourist attraction half the year.

Gondola will be quieter than the motorway traffic.

Cheaper, faster and better.
