Certain medical conditions can be embarrassing to have and therefore may leave the person afraid to seek treatment for fear of judgement and/or ridicule. One such condition that affects men is called Gynecomastia, which is the enlargement of the breast glands. This usually occurs when an irregularity of hormones are present during puberty.

This condition can be embarrassing, uncomfortable and painful. It is important to seek immediate medical attention if there is pain, swelling, or discharge from the nipples. Today’s video will explore some home remedies that can help treat this condition.

1. Fish Oil
Fish oil not only reduces the amount of estrogen in the body, but it also encourages the body to create testosterone. Since hormone levels are a main contributor to gynecomastia, fish oil can be a beneficial treatment. Simply take a fish oil supplement, as well as an Omega-3 supplement. Of course, as with any supplement, be sure to consult with your doctor prior to beginning a new supplement or treatment. Also, you can obtain fish oil naturally by consuming cold water fish, such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel.

2. Cold Compress
With gynecomastia, the breast tissues can become painful and tender. A cold compress can help to contract the breast tissue and therefore reduce pain and swelling. You can make a cold compress at home by using a few ice cube and wrapping them in a light towel. It is important that you do not place the ice cubes directly onto your skin, since that can result in burns and damage to your skin and tissues.

3. Turmeric
Turmeric can increase testosterone levels in men and therefore decrease the engorgement of the breast tissue. Just add one to two teaspoons of turmeric into a cup of water and then heat for ten minutes. Consume this tea two to three times per day.

4. Zinc
Zinc can naturally increase the amount of testosterone in the body. Therefore, consuming foods that are high in zinc, such as oysters, yogurt, chickpeas and fortified breakfast cereal, are imperative in the treatment of gynecomastia. You can also add zinc supplements, if recommended by your doctor.

5. Passion Flower
Passion flower also increases the production of testosterone in the body, which counteracts this condition. Use one teaspoon of dried passion flower and steep in one cup of hot water for ten minutes. Consume this tea a few times per day.

6. Milk Thistle
Milk thistle can improve liver functioning. So, if your condition is caused by liver disease, milk thistle can help. Take one teaspoon of crushed milk thistle seeds and add to 3 cups of water. Remove from heat and allow to steep for 20 minutes.

7. Exercise
Exercise can help to balance hormones in the body, get rid of excess fat and firm up chest and torso muscles. Any exercise that helps to decrease the fat content inside the body will help, including running, walking, swimming, etc.

8. Flaxseed
Flaxseeds help to remove harmful toxins in the body, as well as assist with the production of testosterone. Take one glass of hot water and mix one teaspoon of flaxseeds and consume this each day. You can also consume 1 to 2 teaspoons of flaxseed oil or add ground flaxseeds to smoothies or baked items.

9. Epsom Salt
Taking an epsom salt bath is both relaxing and can help to reduce the appearance of gynecomastia. Just add two cups of epsom salt to a bathtub full of warm water. Be sure to stir the epsom salt until it dissolves. It is important to note that this not recommended for people with high blood pressure or heart problems.

10. Dandelion
Dried dandelion can also help this condition. Since it is a diuretic, it can remove excess water and bloat from the body. Make tea with one teaspoon of dried dandelion and one cup hot water. Allow to steep for ten minutes.

It is also important that you do not take performance enhancing supplements, as they may exacerbate the condition. The same goes for alcohol and tobacco products. Avoid tea tree oil and lavender oils, as they can cause the body to mimic the production of estrogen.
