These days, there is a big push to use re-useable water bottles. They are better for our bodies and for our environment. However, plenty of us are stuck buying plastic water bottles on a regular basis for one reason or another. Did you know there are likely harmful, cancer-causing chemicals in that plastic? That's right. Today's video will discuss what to look for on bottles of water so that you know what you are putting into your body and so that you can make a more informed decision now that you will have the knowledge.

1. HDP or HDPE
These codes mean that this plastic releases almost no harmful chemicals. In other words, if you must buy plastic water bottles, choose ones with these codes on them. They are probably as healthy as you can get.

2. PET or PETE
These codes mean that these bottles should only be used once. Overuse can cause chemicals to be released that can affect the body’s hormone balance. They can also release harmful heavy metals into the air.

3. PS
This code means that this plastic releases some substances that have carcinogen properties. This plastic can be found in fast food materials and in coffee cups.

4. PVC or 3V
This type of plastic releases harmful chemicals into the air that affect the body’s hormonal balance. Steer clear of this one.

5. PP
This plastic is white or semi-colored. It is most commonly found as yogurt containers or syrup bottles. It releases harmful toxins into water. To alleviate concern, choose yogurts and syrups that are stored in glass jars, not plastic.

6. LDPE
This plastic is used to produce plastic bags. While it does not release any harmful chemicals into the water, it cannot breakdown naturally and is quickly filling our landfills. Instead, choose reusable grocery shopping bags.

7. PC or non-labeled plastic
This plastic is by far the absolute worst for both our bodies and our environment. This plastic releases BPA chemicals. Unfortunately, it is also the plastic used to construct food storage containers and sports bottles. Try to choose glass storage bottles and do not microwave those plastic food storage containers, as they release harmful chemicals into your home.
