Sunday Longplay - Castlevania: Caress of Death (NES ROM Hack)

This week on Sunday Longplay, I'm playing a brand-new Castlevania ROM hack just released a couple weeks ago! Welcome to Castlevania: Caress of Death!

Emphasis on the word DEATH in the title of this hack, because you will see a lot of it. Knockback from enemies may have been reduced, but that still won't stop all of the infinitely spawning bats and medusa heads throughout every room of the game from pummeling you to death. Remember that one hallway right before Death in stage 5 of the original Castlevania with the Axe Armors and Medusa Heads? Stage 5 of this hack takes that concept and takes it all the way up to 11! You may admire the hallway of portraits and statues of Shanoa from Order of Ecclesia when you first set foot in there, but you'll be cursing her name by the time you finally get through it! You're definitely going to want to have mastered the second loop of the original Castlevania before attempting this!

Speaking of second loops, this hack restarts from stage 1 after beating the game, but the game doesn't seem to get any harder than the first playthrough. But considering how ball-bustingly hard this hack is, does it really need a harder second loop?

There are also numerous platforming puzzles in this hack with cruel consequences for doing it wrong. Some examples: in Stage 1, if you take the lower path to the boss, you won't be able to get the orb after killing the boss and you have to start over. In Stage 2, taking the upper path leads you to wall meat but traps you up there unable to reach the boss room making you die to start over. In Stage 6, taking the lower path in one room leads you to another wall meat but leaves you unable to reach the upper level where you're supposed to go, making you loop all the way around through the stage again, and most likely making your wall meat a complete waste.

I must have been feeling extra masochistic when I played this, because this is probably the single hardest game I've ever played on this channel! Definitely the closest thing to a Kaizo hack I've ever played!
