Sourdough is delicious and can be used for so many things – bread loaves, dinner rolls, pretzels, the possibilities are almost endless! Making sourdough may seem like an intimidating task but we’re here to say that if we can do it, so can you. Check out the recipe below and feel free to comment with any questions!

Many individual communities have urgent needs as well. Contact local emergency management personnel to find out what items – like shampoo, blankets, diapers, etc. – are needed and where they can be donated. The Kentucky towns of Bremen and Mayfield are near and dear to our hearts, but Benton, Eddyville, Princeton, Dawson Springs, and many others were greatly impacted as well.

SOURDOUGH
7th Day A.M. Feed
3/4 c. sugar
5 tbsp potato flakes
1 c. warm water
1 c. bread flour
Mix ingredients in starter. Cover and let sit on counter all day. Mix bread in evening.

P.M. In big bowl mix following ingredients:
½ c. sugar
½ c. canola oil
1 tbsp salt
1-1/2 c. warm water
3 c. flour & 3 c. flour
Mix, then add 2 c. starter & next 3 c. flour, mix. Knead 3 min. – place in large bowl that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Let sit over night.

Next A.M. – Pound & knead. Divide in 3 parts for bread, or make cinnamon rolls. Cover with plastic wrap, let rise. Bake 350°F when risen. Bake time 30-45 minutes, until 185°F-190°F internal temp. After baking brush tops with butter.
Makes 3 loaves of bread.
Feed starter every 7-10 days. After feeding & sitting out all day either discard 2 c. or bake bread using 2 c. in recipe. Keep in fridge when not feeding
