"Take Us in Your Arms, O Lord" is original music of the freedom that comes to those who call upon Christ for redemption.

==========

The bitter lemon in sweet lemonade should humbly give all glory to its maker. Likewise, its maker should be so humble to give all glory to God who made possible all that would refresh the spirit as well as the body.

I was 19 in 1985 when I cried out to the Lord in the words that became the prayerful plea of my original first verse to this song. Although I firmly believed in Christ by then, I was a slave to uncertainty about my self-worth and future. I had become like a bitter lemon but with the strong sense that nothing truly good could come of me by my own means. So, I prayerfully sought meaning from Christ who had given me sight and had strengthened me to come that far. I spoke my heart to Him and wrote down His responses as I felt led by His Spirit. The lyrics to this song are of that supernatural conversation.

Many years passed before I fully realized the meaning of this song about the freedom that comes to those who call upon Christ for redemption; but I felt God at work in its conception and captured as such once I sat down at the piano and began to pour my heart into the introduction.

To be honest, I was not musically suited at the time to write for such a genre or even play the piano part. Yet, I wrote the score and filed it away for private reflection. More than 36 years later, I rediscovered the manuscript and indeed realized that the freedom for which I prayerfully yearned had since become mine; and I humbly submit to you that only God could accomplish so much in and through a lemon like me – including this song.

"Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free." - Psalm 118:5

I pray that this song of my faith would inspire you to reach out to and believe in Christ who loves you more than anyone in this world. He would set you free and lead you to His place of real peace.

Song: Take Us in Your Arms, O Lord
By: Jeff H. Ulrich
Music and Original Lyrics: 1985
Recording and Revised Lyrics: 2021
Lead & Backup Vocals: Steven Myles
Pianist: Grant Larcom

Lyrics:

~Verse 1~
Called upon the angels high. Called upon the stars.
Called upon the ones I loved. But they were too far.

No one answered. No one knew. No one heard my cry
But Jesus when I called His name. To Him, I owe my life.

He loves me.

~Verse 2~
What’s the matter? What’s the reason you won’t even pray
In your search for someone who can turn your night to day?

No one else cares more for us than Christ, God’s only Son.
So call upon Jesus’ name, believing He’s the One.

He loves you.

~Chorus~
Take us in Your arms, O Lord.
Mend our broken souls.
Fill our minds with meaning,
Our hearts with blessed hope,

As we follow You to Your place of peace in everlasting life
Where yokes will be broken, our shackles removed; for Christ

Set us free.

~Verse 3~
Even though yesterday could never be undone.
Forgiven are humbled who repent rather than run.

Comfort in redemption is the peace from Heav(en) above.
Such grace is free to those who come to Christ, the Lamb of God.

He loves you.

{Repeat chorus x2}
