"Is it normal to watch porn?"

That's a question posed to kids by a digital sexual education company that reaches children all over the world.

The answer might surprise you.

In its annual report, it claims it received 50 million views in 2020 while kids were home during the pandemic.

New Jersey State Senator Holly Schepisi is one of the parents pushing back against proposed sexual education lesson plans for elementary school students, which also includes lessons on gender identity for first grade students.

In this independent report, I explore the sexual education debate in New Jersey, the finances and affiliations of one sexual education company partnering with teachers and schools all over the world, precisely what students are being taught with full lesson plans below, and why the New Jersey Department of Education says it's in the name of inclusive education. Yes, the widely-discussed Florida bill comes up, too.

I encourage you to watch the entire video.

FULL STATEMENT FROM NEW JERSEY DEPT. OF EDUCATION:

"New Jersey’s academic standards (New Jersey Student Learning Standards, or NJSLS) define what students should know and be able to do at the end of specified grade levels. The 2020 NJSLS in Comprehensive Health and Physical Education (NJSLS-CHPE) are designed to ensure that all students acquire the health and physical literacy skills needed to pursue a life of wellness at developmentally appropriate ages, including knowledge and skills related to sexual health. Any allegations to the contrary misrepresent the NJSLS-CHPE standards.

The NJDOE does not mandate specific curriculum; it is the responsibility of local school districts to create curriculum, tailored to and in consultation with their communities, in order to implement standards within the understanding of local setting and context. The law also recognizes the deeply personal nature of potentially sensitive topics, and allows parents or guardians to opt out of portions health, family life education, or sex education that conflicts with their conscience or moral or religious beliefs.

The NJDOE is dedicated to ensuring that the NJSLS-CHPE reflect the ideal that schools stand with all youth, educators, and parents to acknowledge, understand, and uplift all identities. We recognize, in particular, the struggles that many LGBTQ youth experience feeling safe and supported in schools. According to a 2021 resource published by The Trevor Project, suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people aged 10 to 24 — and LGBTQ youth are at significantly increased risk. The Trevor Project found that 42% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, including more than half of transgender and nonbinary youth. In this time when the COVID-19 pandemic has taxed students’ mental health – and when turning on the national news subjects LGBTQ youth to hostility and misunderstanding such as through Governor DeSantis of Florida’s signing of the “Don’t Say Gay” legislation – it is important for schools to communicate acceptance and affirmation to all their students. We will continue to support schools in advancing these values."
