Caller: We have a lot of complacency. I mean even earlier today speaking about how you know Biden is weak. sort of effectless. and in some ways, a person especially having to deal with some of the climate business. and again he's far from a perfect Bernie supporter from 2016 and 2020. But I think working within like the realities of this country being, unfortunately, more conservative than we would like it. I do feel that he's especially from his state of the union and how he's put forward his new budget for 2023. I do feel that there are a lot of gains to be made there. and instead of trying to fight fights that aren't worth fighting I guess trying to embrace some of the ways he's you know implementing the new progressive way we view things. like a trillion-dollar budget.
Emma: right but that's not going to get adopted.
Caller: it’s not going to get adopted because of the senate right? because the senate is the way it is with joe Manchin.
Matt: And what is Biden doing about that?
Caller: yeah I mean it was really he's trying to. yeah I mean you can you know sorry a little nervous.
Emma: No, it's okay.
Emma: he's trying to do especially with what's going on in Ukraine and kind of like with a reinvigorated I guess nato. and understanding of this country again more conservative and that there's a lot of people who like the military the police etc. I mean that's trying to take away some of the talking points of republicans while trying to also move us slightly more progressively. again with these larger budgets and whatnot.
Emma: Okay hold on Evan. just give me a sec. you know I appreciate it you know I like I have a disagreement with you on one thing. a few things. but I will say in terms of Ukraine I think on this program we've said that a lot of the restraint that he showed in terms of escalating rhetoric and like no-fly zones and some of the crazier hawks in this country he's been very I think measured in that way. and I've appreciated that plus the Afghanistan withdrawal those are two things that are tangible and we're right. the way that he's now basically stolen Afghanistan's money as their population is starving I don't know how one can defend that Evan you know. so but to your point about the state of the union which I think you're getting at here when he went out of his way to go and say fund the police fund the police and I'm against defund the police over and over.
