White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said, “it’s becoming clearer and clearer each day that it is Putin’s aim to wipe out the idea of being Ukrainian,” when asked during the daily briefing about the president calling the situation in Ukraine a “genocide.” When asked later to clarify the president’s use of the term “genocide,” the press secretary said he is “allowed to make his views known,” and that, “we shouldn’t misunderstand who he is and where he stands on the totem pole, which is at the top.” Other topics discussed during the briefing were the recently announced additional aid package to Ukraine, more sanctions against Russia, COVID-19 and mask mandates, and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) recent bus transport and drop-off of undocumented migrants in the center of Washington, DC.
